Geoelectrical Tests

Geoelectrical methods are applied for the resolution of subsoil structures in vertical and lateral direction. Most of the tests performed aim at a surface mapping using different set-up configurations or a 1D probing. Especially the Wenner and the Schlumberger configuration are recommended due to their insensitivity against natural and artificial disturbances.

A geoelectrical testing set-up consists of two electrodes for the current input and two receiver electrodes. Different depth ranges can be scanned if the distance of the current electrodes is varied.

Since the measurement provides values of the averaged electrical resistivity over a depth range only the inversion of the test data by means of a numerical inversion algorithm is necessary.
